Two Gourmet Turkey Burgers For Your Menu
People sometimes think of turkey burgers are the healthy, but less tasty, alternative to beef burgers. Indeed, a plain, dry turkey burger can be a bit boring, but turkey burgers certainly don't need to be plain or dry. Consider making one of the turkey burger recipes below and adding it to the menu. Both of these recipes result in juicy, flavorful, delicious turkey burgers.
Sweet and Spicy Turkey Burgers
These burgers have enough sweetness and spice to excite the palate, but not enough that most guests will find them too spicy. Serve these burgers topped with cheddar cheese, lettuce, and tomato. You can offer mayonnaise as a topping, too.
To make a dozen burgers, you'll need:
- 3 pounds ground turkey
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 tablespoon jalapeno pepper, diced very finely
- kosher salt
Combine the egg, breadcrumbs, and milk in a large bowl. Let rest for 5 minutes to allow the breadcrumbs to moisten. Then, add the turkey meat, honey, cayenne pepper, and jalapeno pepper to the bowl. Mix well. When the mixture is uniform, divide it into 12 even portions. Shape each portion into a burger patty. You can then stack your burger patties with wax paper between them. Cook them on a flat-top to order, salting each burger just before cooking.
3-Herb Turkey Burgers
These turkey burgers have an Italian-inspired flavor. They're lovely when served topped with mozzarella cheese and a slice of tomato. You can even add a drizzle of balsamic dressing if desired.
To make 12 turkey burgers, you need:
- 3 pounds ground turkey
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 2 teaspoons dried marjoram leaves
- kosher salt
Combine the eggs, milk, and breadcrumbs in a bowl. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients, except for the salt, and mix well. Divide the mixture into 12 portions, and shape each into a ball before flattening it into a burger. Then, stack your burgers with wax paper between them. Cook them to order on a flat-top, salting them just before cooking.
Whether you include one or both of these turkey burgers on your menu, your guests are sure to love them. You might notice that more and more people are ordering turkey burgers!
